ABOUT US
Founded in 2007 on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples–Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:lō and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations, McLaughlin & Associates works at the intersection of strategy and governance to help boards and leadership teams align towards desired goals and outcomes. Our commitments to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) factors, to Truth and Reconciliation, and to health and wellbeing, inform our work and govern our lives.
We work for a wide variety of public sector, private sector and not for profit organizations, with deep expertise in charities, professional associations, member based societies, regulatory bodies, co-operatives, NGOs, crown agencies, private and family enterprise. The McLaughlin team of Senior Associates each bring complementary skills to our work in strategic planning, governance consulting, executive recruitment, coaching, performance development and assessment.
Our Commitment to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Impact
At McLaughlin & Associates we are on a lifelong self-discovery journey with our clients to understand our role as colonial settlers, to seek truth and reconciliation, and do what we can to stimulate a more just, inclusive and well society. We embrace the principles of justice, equity, diversity, anti-racism, open inclusion and self-care in our lives, our work and our workplace. Our deeply held commitment to adapting, learning and leading change informs our support and guidance to our clients. We seek to work with change catalysts who are dedicated to making the world better for everyone. We are proud to have supported some of BC’s highest social impact leaders including DIVERSEcity Community Resources Society, BC Women’s Health Foundation, Family Services of Greater Vancouver, Options Community Services Society, MOSAIC, the Immigrant Employment Council of BC (IEC-BC), the Immigrant Services Society of BC (ISS of BC), Emily Carr University, Douglas College, Community Living BC and Vancity, to name a few.
Our understanding of Indigenous ways of being has been developed through our work with organizations such as Xyolhemeylh, the Fraser Valley Child and Family Services Society and the Vancouver Aboriginal Health Society. Kathy McLaughlin has completed the San’yas Cultural Safety Training program from the Provincial Health Services Society (PHSA).
We regularly consult with boards and executive teams to integrate climate crisis strategies, DEI policies, action plans for Truth and Reconciliation, and advocacy for social change into their strategic plans and governance frameworks. We continue to learn and integrate others’ learning to understand best practices in this evolving landscape.

Two common denominators distinguish our work:
* Strategy: Everything we do is aligned with the strategic goals of our client. Whether it is a short-term assignment or a long term engagement we ensure our activities complement our client’s overall strategic direction. While we strive to build long term relationships with our clients with the provision of service in many areas we also support clients with short-term opportunities or to solve a particular challenge. Whether we are recruiting the next CEO, assessing the board’s performance and governance materials, designing a strategic planning process or team dynamics workshop, we will take the time to fully understand your business goals, strategy and challenges to produce a solution that delivers sustainable results.
* Exceptional Service: Our goal is to provide extraordinarily efficient and effective service, representing exceptional value for your consulting investment. If our clients don’t highly recommend us when asked about the value they receive for their investment in our services, we are not meeting our own standards. 100% of our new assignments come from existing or referred clients.
As a fully virtual team we pay respect to the traditional guardians of the land upon which we live and work wherever our clients need us, and acknowledge our duty to walk with and alongside reconciliation and decolonization efforts globally.
